Should I buy a second hand blender?

Blenders of all kinds are avilable online at cheaper rates thant you would ever get at your local Best Buy or WalMart. Well, pretty much all of them except the legendary Vita Mix 5000 which is now succeeded by the Vita Mix 5200, a good upgrade but nowhere near the popularity of the original. Before you buy one though, you have to decide what kind of blender you want as this will dictate the kind of price you should expect to pay for it. I’ll also talk about what to check for and how to get your blender functioning like new in the next paragraph – but decide if you want a hand held blender, a mini blender or a full blown countertop blender for yourself.

All the info I have on buying a used blender comes from the Vita Mix 1300 TurboBlend 4500 that I bought a couple of months ago. The few things you need to check out are if the motor runs as it is supposed to, that all the accessories that you need are there (don’t worry if some are missing, this will let you get the price down a bit) and a as a bonus if you can still get the warranty up for this one.

You can make your used blender as good as new by using the same technique that I did and it has nothing to do with re-tooling the motor or anything like that. All you need to do is buy all the acessories for your blender all over again; atleast the main ones like the blender jar, the lid of the same as well as any blades that you will be using regularly. With a lot of used blenders, the blade has lost most of its mojo half the time and this can result in uneven chopping of ice and veggies – not ideal at all!
