As more and more people are choosing to invest in the money-saving, exterior illuminating features of solar patio lights, the demand has grown for additional light styles, finishes and colors. Once only available in black, today’s outdoor solar lighting is available in black, white, stainless steel/aluminum and copper finishes. With so many choices on the market, shoppers may be tempted to choose their favorite finish; however, if desiring to tie your new purchase in with your existing lawn furnishings and décor, you may wish to choose another color.

Homeowners will first need to decide where they are going to place their solar patio lights. Will they be used in the front or back yard? Next, find the specific location lights will be placed and check for any types of visible metal finishes. If used to illuminate a deck or patio area, lights will want to coordinate with barbeque grills, patio furniture, pool gates and planters. If more than one finish is present, choose the one that is the most dominant and purchase lights in that color.

In the front yard, most people purchase solar lights to illuminate driveways and walking paths. While there may not be any metal finishes on concrete pathways; look around. Visualize where the lights would start and end. If owning a fence, you may wish to choose lights in the same color as your fence. Lights installed in a fence-free area may lead to a home’s front door where hardware finishes will be present for door handles, door bells and possibly mailboxes. Again, unless immediately planning to replace hardware; choose the light’s finish in the shade that is used the most.

Finally, if you plan on transporting lights from one place to another, such as a front yard to a back yard, try to see if there is one, cohesive theme to use as a guideline. Possibilities include yard-surrounding fences, gates, exterior hardware trims and planters. This will allow you to place solar patio lights anywhere you please; knowing they will always be a good match with your existing décor.
