One of the most useful and ubiquitous, but also most misused outdoor lights fixtures are flood lights.  These lights give off a huge amount of light that can shed light on your entire yard, but many wanna-be landscapers use them for applications they weren’t meant to be used for.  Here are some tips on how to fit your flood lights in with the rest of your garden lights to make your whole landscape look amazing and also provide you with a lot of functional space.

The first way that you can use y our flood lights is as outdoor security lighting.  While flood lights won’t provide the same subtle touches and weaker, more focused accent lights do, they will help to scare away thieves at night because your home is lit so well.  But, if you leave your flood lights on all night you won’t be able to enjoy your accent lights at all.  The easy solution to this is to place your outdoor flood light fixtures on a motion sensor.  Whenever there is movement outside they will come on, hopefully scaring away any potential robbers.

Not only will this help with scaring away robbers, but it will also help you to get around your house yourself at night.  Nobody likes pulling up to a dark driveway and having to stumble around and fumble for your keys.  If you hook your lights up to a motion sensor, they’ll be there when you need them and turn off automatically when you don’t.

Another great way to use flood lights in your lighting scheme is as functional lights on your deck.  If you’ve got an outdoor kitchen or even just a barbeque grill, odds are that you will need a good amount of light to cook by.  Installing flood lights here will let you cook with safety and ease.

Hopefully, these two ways to use flood lights outside your home has helped you to think of some ways to use them in your own home.  Start thinking of some ways to use them today!
